Shri. G. Rajendran is the founder of G.R.Thanga Maligai in Chennai. He was born in October 1942. He started his career as a Bank employee. Later he ventured into Jewellery Business in the year 1964 and he started this Jewellery show room in Usman Road, T.Nagar, Chennai known as G.R.Thangamaligai. G.R.Thangamaligai deals with Gold, Silver, Diamond and Platinum Jewellery and is one of the leading jewellers in South India. He has also ventured in the hospitality industry. He started GRT Grand, a Four Star Business Hotel in March 1998 in the heart of Madras city. GRT Grand won All India Best Hotel Award in the year 2001 from FHRA, New Delhi. This group is also having a Five Star Deluxe Hotel Raddisson GRT which is near to the Chennai Airport. Subsequently they took over the management of ITDC property – Mamallapuram, now known as GRT Temple Bay Beach Resorts. They are also managing two hotels in the name of GRT Regency at the temple towns of Madurai and Kancheepuram. They are also running GRT Tours and Travels, which is running luxury cars for the benefit of hotel guest. This group is running a higher secondary school in the name of G.R.T Mahalakshmi Vidyalaya at Ashok Nagar, which has got 1500 students in its role.
G R Thangamaligai, popularly known as GRT Group, has been in the retail jewellery business since 1964. Ananthapadmanabhan joined the family business in the year 1994 and under his management, the business grew substantially and expanded its clientele. The Group is now one of the top jewelers in India with several prestigious awards in its kitty and an A1 rating from ICRA – one of India’s biggest rating agencies. GRT deals in gold jewellery, diamonds, precious stone jewellery, silverware and gift articles.

G.R. Radhakrishnan is the Managing Director of the GRT Group in Chennai. He had his academic qualification in Commerce Degree of the Madras University from Loyola College, Chennai. He graduated as a jewellery gemmologist from the Gemmological Institute of America and gained vast experience in the jewellery and diamond trade.
He entered the family jewellery business – G.R. Thangamaligai, popularly known as GRT – started by G. Rajendran in 1964. GRT is one of the leading retail jewelers, backed by decades of experience in jewellery trade.
Besides hard work, dedication and goodwill, Radhakrishnan is a role model for the younger generation. It was under his management that GRT was crowned the best diamond showroom in Chennai by DTC-De Beers for four years in a row. GRT has also been India’s No. 1 in Platinum Retail as pronounced by the Platinum Guild of India for the past 4 years.

Jayasree Rajesh, Correspondent, GRT Mahalakshmi Vidyalaya and Managing Director of Lotus (Service Apartments) comes from the renowned family of G.Rajendran – jeweler, hotelier, educationalist, philanthrophist and humanitarian.
Young, dynamic and vibrant, Ms. Rajesh is a wonderful example of the modern Indian woman of substance. She always stays on top of the latest in the world of science, technology, fine arts and music and has won the Ist Prize in Excellence in Gold design conducted by Swarnanjali in 2000 and the 2nd Prize in Diamond Jewellery for Nakshatra Design conducted by Unidesign Jewellery India Pvt Ltd. in 2003. She excels in her role as an educationalist. Her passion for holistic education keeps her on her toes – organizing programs that cover every sphere of knowledge, activity and achievement. She is a committee member of Sriperumbudur Sanskrit College and her central role in propagating Sanskrit education, the annual Insight Personality Development Program, fitness and wellness and encouraging sports is a testament to her commitment to quality education. She has also introduced technology oriented, visual based learning in the classroom and the learning center even has a special educator who helps dyslexic children gradually blend into mainstream education. Ms. Jayasree Rajesh is a well-traveled, well-read person with a wide range of interests. Career fest is an annual feature in GRT providing career counseling and guidance to students, propelling them into unconventional professions. Ms. Rajesh motivates the youth to explore new areas of knowledge and even pursue courses that are off the beaten track.
She is involved in other community and society building initiatives such as organ donation and stem cell research. Under her leadership, blood donation camps and registration for eye donation are organized as community services.

A gold medalist from Andhra University, G.Krishnamurthy is a chartered accountant backed by more than 33 years’ experience in banking. He was the Chairman and CEO of Bharat Overseas Bank, Chennai, where he oversaw: the introduction of the Core Banking Solution, sponsored a whole range HR initiatives, promoted new, innovative products and facilitated the rapid growth of the bank.
He also spent 27 years with The Vysya Bank Ltd. (presently ING Vysya) and held various senior and top management positions during his stint here – from department head of international business and industrial credit, to planning and development, and even human resources. During his tenure as the head of the international business division, the bank received the prestigious Export Promotion Banking Award from the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council of India. He was also a member of the bank’s treasury advisory executive committee and one of the 5-member team that studied the prospect of the bank’s strategic association with the then bank, Brussels Lambert (now merged with ING Group), Belgium.
Krishnamurthy has addressed a wide range topics at several meetings sponsored by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Management Association, educational institutions and trade chambers. He has also contributed articles to banking and management publications.
He now continues to share his invaluable knowledge and insight as the president of finance and corporate affairs, with the GRT Group.
