CODE OF CONDUCT

1. PREAMBLE

  • GRT IET emphasizes that, for a sustainable development, institutional effectiveness and employee satisfaction, it is imperative to have a sound set of human resource policies which are dynamic and accommodative in providing a suitable working environment in which workers may work and benefit in accordance with the institution's vision, mission, and quality policies.

    The Institute's goal in implementing the Code is to pioneer and manage a student punishment procedure that is egalitarian, conscientious, effective, and timely, as well as to provide a system that fosters student progress through individual and communal responsibility.

    All students are expected to be familiar with the Code, which can also be found on the Institute's official website.

2. RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS

  • Students have the right to:
    • be free from discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, age, sex, disability or any other matter of personal preference
    • have freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association, with a condition that these freedoms do not hinder the effective conduct of classes, comply with the policies of institution, other principles of ethical behavior such as respect for the right of others
    • Fair assessment and the right to accurate information regarding the grading standards in compliance with the Institution appeal procedures
    • appeal in accordance with the Institution Appeal Policies
    • avoid being harassed by any of our Institution members.
    • be heard in case when a decision is to be taken against him/her.
    • be notified on a timely manner on discipline proceedings or action
  • Students have the following responsibilities:
    • become familiar with the provisions of this Code and all other policies of the Institution
    • in relation to any person within group or external to the institution, must not offer or accept any bribe or other unlawful financial consideration or seek or accept any other personal favor, which may influence them in their studies, or influence others in their work must immediately report any attempt to seek bribes or personal favors to the relevant authority defined in the rules of institution
    • must behave towards the governing board, managers, academic and support staff and fellow students in a respectful way, upholding the general principles of ethical conduct, and contribute positively and constructively to the academic work
    • It is forbidden to cheat, copy someone else's work, either individually or in a group, or try to obtain an advantage by providing any kind of inducement on their behalf when taking an exam or other assessment.

3. ETHICS AND CONDUCT

  • Students must wear I.D card in the campus.
  • Before the first hour begins, students are required to eat breakfast.
  • On college campuses, students should not celebrate holidays like Friendship Day, Birthday, Valentine's Day, Annual Day, Teachers Day, New Year's Day, Holi, etc.
  • Students should use the dust bins to throw any kind of waste such as paper, fruit peels, tea cups, plates etc.
  • Walking on the lawns and playground is strictly prohibited.
  • Use of cameras is not permitted inside the campus, without the written permission from the college authorities.
  • Ragging, smoking, drinking, and physical assault are all forbidden on campus and on college buses, and students who engage in these behaviors will be expelled.
  • Any kind of ragging, whether on or off campus or in a college bus, is a serious offense that is punishable under the policies and guidelines of the Institution and the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
  • Clapping and desk thumping are not permitted inside the classroom.
  • Students should not sit on the parapet wall.
  • It is strictly forbidden to eat or chew during class hours in classrooms.
  • Possession of incriminating documents/books/posters/cassettes etc. is punishable.
  • Use of crackers, on any occasion by students is not permitted.
  • It is forbidden to use drugs, smoke or chew pan masala, or drink alcohol on college and dorm grounds.
  • In addition to being penalized for the cost of damages, students who are found to have caused any harm to the college's assets will face severe consequences.
  • Possession of lethal weapons is strictly banned and punishable.

4. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

  • Students should attend the college on time.
  • Students are expected to uphold the college's decorum and discipline.
  • Students should wear identity cards in college campus.
  • Student should earn 75% of attendance, if not he/she will not be eligible to appear for the end semester examination.
  • It is recommended that students make use of the resources offered by our college.
  • Students should maintain cleanliness in the campus.
  • It is recommended that students take part in all of the college's programs, events, and physical education and cultural activities.
  • It is strictly forbidden to engage in ragging. According to the UGC's and the Government's directives, anyone found guilty of ragging and/or aiding and abetting ragging faces punishment. Any ragging incident will be taken very seriously. A case will be filed with the local police authorities and those found guilty will be expelled from the institute.
  • Administrative action in the event of ragging: Based on the facts of each occurrence, the institution's anti-ragging committee will decide whether to punish or not, taking into account the severity and nature of the ragging incident as well as the suggestions made by the anti-ragging squad.
  • Students should not involve in any kind of illegal activities.
  • The institute prohibits any political activities inside the campus and forbids students from conducting and attending any political meetings within the institute campus.
  • Students are not allowed to use mobile phones during the lecture hours.
  • Students should protect property of the college.
  • Student should not remain absent without prior permission.
  • It is anticipated that students will spend their leisure time in the library. They shouldn't linger in the hallway or swarm the passageway.
  • Students must not roam in the premises of institute while the classes are going on.
  • Any disruptive behaviors by the students are not permitted during class hours.
  • To get good grades for internals, students must make sure their participation in interactive learning modules, continuous assessment tests, and assignment submission.
  • Students are advised strictly to be present in the lecture hours.
  • Smoking and consumption of alcohol and any other drugs in the premises of Institute are strictly prohibited.
  • Be polite and respectful towards others, staff and other students.
  • It is not appropriate for students to leave their books, valuables, or other possessions in the classroom.
  • The Institute is not responsible for any lost property of the students.
  • Students must reach the campus on or before 8:30am.
  • Leaving the campus before completion of classes is not allowed. If any student wants to avail leave, he/she has to give letter to his/her respective faculty advisors.
  • Students must be confined to the room numbers allotted to them.
  • Unnecessary entry to other classrooms is not allowed.
4.1 DRESS CODE:

4.1.1 BOYS

  • Should wear only formals with shirts tucked in.
  • Wearing jeans never be encouraged.
  • Only formal shoes should be worn; sports or canvas shoes are not allowed.
  • Dhoti/lungi/shorts/T-shirts are not allowed.
  • During laboratory classes, students must wear lab coats and the recommended footwear.
  • It is not allowed to wear plastic bracelets or short chains around the neck.

4.1.2 GIRLS

  • Should wear only salwar or chudithar.
  • It is not appropriate to wear palazzos, short tops, or leggings to college.
  • Shoes are only allowed.
  • It is not permitted to wear loose hair. Hair needs to be tied or plaited.
  • During laboratory classes, students are required to wear lab coats and shoes.

5 LEAVE APPLICATION AND ON DUTY FOR STUDENTS

  • Students are not permitted to skip class without the class advisors' or HoDs' prior consent.
  • The HoD and the class/faculty advisor's signatures must be included with the leave application in the format specified. During the holidays, hosts should have the Warden, HoD, and Class/Faculty advisor sign the leave letter.
  • On the other days, it must be turned in with the HoD's and the class/faculty advisor's signature. In order to stay alone in an outside hostel, a person must get their parents' or guardians' permission.
  • When students fall sick, intimation should be given to HODs or Class Advisors about the nature of sickness, duration of leave required, etc.
  • When it exceeds more than 3 days, on the next day of the absence, leave applications (letters) signed by the parents along with doctor’s certificate should be submitted.
  • Students should ensure a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject as they are otherwise not eligible to appear for the University examinations.
5.1.1 LEAVE ON DUTY
  • Permission or leave on duty will be given only in the following cases:
    • Students who are permitted to take part in paper/project presentations.
    • Students are encouraged to take part in cultural, sports and other competitions in other colleges.

6. Code of Conduct for Teaching Faculty Members

  • Faculty should work within the institutional policies and practices, so as to satisfy the vision and mission of the institute.
  • They should carry out academic, cocurricular and organizational activities that may be assigned to them from time to time with due diligence.
  • Faculty must maintain high standards of punctuality, honesty and professional ethics.
  • Faculty should act in a professional and congenial manner towards colleagues / students, irrespective of their relative position, gender or status within the institutional hierarchy.
  • All faculty members are expected to uphold the academic environment's sanctity and rigorously adhere to the institution's requirements. Faculty should attend to students' academic needs and finish the syllabus on time.
  • Faculty ought to be skilled facilitators and counselors. They should support, mentor, uplift, and aid the students in order to guarantee the success and efficacy of the teaching-learning process. They should make value-based education as their motto. All Faculty should properly maintain the records of respective portfolio.
  • Faculty members are encouraged to write text books, publish articles in reputed Journals and present papers in Seminars and Conferences.
  • Faculty members are also encouraged to take up Research projects and attend Faculty Development Programs, Quality Improvement programs etc., to update their knowledge.
  • Faculty should maintain confidentiality in conduct of examination and any other Information, unless asked to reveal by the institutional authority.
  • To take a leave of absence, report late in the morning, or depart early in the evening without losing their responsibilities, prior written consent must be obtained. There are limitations on this in terms of frequency.
  • The prescribed dress code for faculty is:
    • Identity cards must be worn.
    • Male faculty members ought to dress formally, with their shirts tucked in.
    • Male faculty should wear ties.
    • Male faculty should wear black formal shoes.
    • Female faculty should wear Saree.
  • Each member of the faculty should contribute positively to the development of the Institution. In order to help the community and society at large, they must volunteer their services.
    • As aim of the teaching profession is to educate and kindle the thirst for knowledge the faculty should play a vital role in making the students groom with intellectual development which is essential for a good living in the future.
    • Faculties should be concerned and dedicated towards achieving the same.
  • Faculties should foster an educational environment in the classroom and treat all students equally, regardless of their socioeconomic background, caste, creed, color, gender, or religion.
  • Faculties should lead by example and serve as role models for students, encouraging curiosity and knowledge exploration.
  • In addition to developing students' professional skills, educators should instill in them a sense of social responsibility, community service, and patriotism.
  • Faculties should be conscious to maintain the dignity of the profession.
  • Faculties should be conscious of helping each student grasp the fundamentals of preparing them to handle the difficulties encountered during practice and cultivate the habit of discovering new aspects of the medical field.
  • Faculties should be enthusiastic in learning the recent advances, innovations and apply the same to become a teacher of updated knowledge.
  • Faculties should find time to do research and create an opportunity for the students to follow it up.
  • Faculties should involve themselves as a mentor for students in conducting seminars, Workshops, Interactive sessions, sports and cultural activities.
  • Faculties should interact with parents of the students during Parent Teacher’s Meeting.
  • Faculties should follow the professional ethics.
  • Faculties should adhere to the principles of scientific research and writing.
  • Professional faculties should give respect to the professional fellow in a commendable manner and treat non-professional and support staff in the same line.
  • Teaching Staff should maintain dignity and decorum of the post they are holding.
  • They should perform their work honestly.
  • A lesson delivery plan for each of the assigned subjects should be prepared by the teacher.
  • Students should be taught discipline and patriotism by their teachers.

7. Code of Conduct for Non-Teaching Staff

  • Administrative employees will be accountable for the tasks assigned to them.
  • When interacting with parents or guardians, administrative staff should be courteous and considerate.
  • Faculty members and administrative staff should establish cordial and cooperative relationships.
  • Administrative staff should perform all professional activities through proper channels.
  • Administrative staff should not involve in unethical practices.
  • It is not acceptable for administrative employees to skip work without permission.
  • Administrative staff should not engage directly or indirectly in any trade or business.

8. Code of Conduct for Supporting Staff

  • Lab assistants are required to set up lab apparatus and equipment, keep track of inventory, and record breakage on a daily basis.
  • A checklist for the entry and departure of unskilled workers must be kept up to date by the housekeeping supervisor.
  • Unskilled workers are responsible for keeping the restrooms, common areas, stairs, and surrounding areas as clean as possible.
  • Field visits and educational excursions planned by various departments should be coordinated by the transportation department. They should continuously perform the necessary actions and inspect the buses' condition.
  • Unskilled employees should develop cooperative and friendly relationships with faculty members. They should not involve in unethical practices. They should not engage directly or indirectly in any trade or business.
  • The electrical maintenance department should inspect light switches and replace them as needed. They should look for any broken or missing reflectors, diffusers, or lights and replace them as needed. Electrical panel boxes need to be checked on a regular basis.

9. For Administrators

  • Accept students and faculty from all backgrounds, castes, races, and genders, and support them to help achieve academic objectives without discrimination. Discourage all forms of discrimination.
  • As a key component of the college's mission, emphasize the importance of combining academic learning with personal growth. Plan activities to achieve this goal.
  • Encourage research in all academic areas. Promote and encourage these research activities to support nearby villages.
  • Make every effort to support the development of laboratories and space for research activities.
  • Promote and assist cooperative efforts both inside the organization and with other reputable external institutions.
  • Endorse the concept of interdisciplinary studies in all areas.
  • Maintain and develop associations with alumni as a lifelong relationship of mutual support.
  • To assist instructors and students in understanding the application of knowledge, establish and grow institute-industry partnerships.
  • Make every effort to use digital technologies to boost the speed and effectiveness of administrative tasks.
  • Be open to student issues, needs, and complaints, and set up mechanisms to address them.
  • Be receptive to faculty requirements and grievances, and have means to address them.
  • Organize programs for faculty development and ensure that every faculty member has adequate opportunity for it.
  • Provide assistance for leisure activities to staff, instructors, and students.

10. Code of Conduct for Lab for Students

  • Only in the presence of the instructors will students be allowed to enter the laboratory.
  • Wearing a lab coat and displaying ID card are required.
  • A graph sheet, calculator, and other necessary stationery should be brought by students.
  • Only after completing earlier experiments are students permitted to enter the lab.
  • As soon as they enter the lab, students are asked to sign the attendance register.
  • Students are instructed to sign in the register while receiving and returning the apparatus from the instructor.
  • Students are strictly instructed to get a signature from the faculty in the observation note for their respective experiment before leaving the lab.
  • The received apparatus should be handed over to the lab instructor without any damage.

11. Code of Conduct for Library Usage for Students

  • Silence must be strictly observed by students while in the library.
  • Students are required to fill out the library's register regarding their use of the books.
  • Log-in and log-out time register must be maintained.
  • Students must return the book after use.
  • Excessive talking, ear-piercing noise from other electronic equipment must be avoided.
  • Food consumption is not permitted in libraries.
  • Cell phones need to be in silent mode.
  • It is strictly forbidden to use cigarettes or tobacco products on campus.
  • Loitering in and around the library hall must be avoided.
  • A student does not cause any nuisance to others while they are using the library.
  • Students always wear ID cards while entering the library.
  • Personal belongings such as bags, files, notebooks, and personal books must be kept at the property counter. They are cautioned, nevertheless, not to leave expensive items outside the library, such as laptops, cell phones, purses, etc.
  • The following criteria are used to determine recovery if the borrower is unable to return the book because of loss or damage:
    • Replacing the lost or damaged book with another good copy having similar descriptions.
    • If the loss is reported by the deadline, recovery is achieved by collecting twice the current market price in the absence of replacement.
    • Double the current market price plus past-due fees are collected to make up for the loss after the deadline has passed.

12. Code of Conduct for Hostellers

  • Hostellers are required to stay in the designated room and not move without the warden's approval. They must maintain a clean and sanitary environment in their rooms.
  • At least ten minutes prior to the start of classes, all students should vacate the hostel.
  • During college hours, no student is permitted to remain in the hostel without the warden's prior consent.
  • When a hostel employee becomes ill, they should notify the warden, who will make arrangements for appropriate treatment.
  • In the event that the rooms they occupy, as well as fixtures like fans, furniture, tube lights, switches, toilet sinks, etc., sustain damage, hostellers will be held accountable.
  • They will be responsible for paying the costs determined by the warden in the event that any hostel property is damaged.
  • Students are advised not to bring any valuables to the hostel.
  • The management will not be responsible for any loss due to their negligence.
  • When students are not present, the rooms should be locked, and only the warden should be given the room keys.
  • If the students go on long leave, they should inform the warden.
  • The hostel for girls is off-limits to boys, and vice versa.
  • It is strictly forbidden to rag inside the hostel. They will be kicked out of the hostel if convicted.
  • Celebrations of any kind and partying in the hostel are not allowed.
  • With prior permission from the warden, students are allowed to leave the hostel and visit campus facilities such as the library, canteen, and internet center.
  • If a student wishes to leave the hostel or go on an outing, he/she must present a letter of parental consent via regular or expedited mail at least one day beforehand.
  • The letter should be duly acknowledged by the Warden and the ward.

13. Canteen/Mess

  • Seating arrangements should not be altered by students inside the canteen/mess for any reason.
  • The cafeteria is only intended for limited dining purposes; it should not be used for leisure or educational purposes.
  • Misconduct within the canteen or mess services is a crime that carries consequences.
  • Students should treat the canteen staff with courtesy and politeness.
  • To collect tokens, boys and girls should wait in different lines.
  • Canteen timings should be strictly adhered to.
  • During class hours, students are not permitted to visit the canteen.

14. Bus and Transportation

  • Students must carry an ID card while travelling by college bus.
  • Only the bus route listed on the bus pass should be used by students, and they should board and get off at the same location.
  • In case of change of address, it has to be intimated to the Transport In-charge.
  • It is strictly forbidden for students to travel on footboards, and they should remain seated throughout the trip.
  • During the trip, students should not lie down on the seat or move around inside the bus.
  • Students should not disrupt the decorum in the bus by dancing, singing, shouting, or disturbing other students.
  • It is strictly forbidden to celebrate birthdays, bus days, Holi, or any other events or festivals.
  • Students must strictly follow the instructions given by the faculty members while travelling in the bus, and they should not engage in any unruly behavior while on the bus.
  • It is forbidden for students to converse with people of the opposite gender.

15. Appeal

  1. A staff member, faculty member, administrator, or student may file an appeal with the principal or head of department if they feel wronged by the accusations made against them by the committee.
  2. The appeal could be to reduce the severity of the penalties or charges.
  3. The principal decision is final in the matter.
